Running Start is a program in Washington State that allows “qualified” high school juniors and seniors to get a “running start” on their college education (some other states have similar programs). The state pays the cost of tuition, and the student takes college classes, simultaneously applying the credits earned to a college degree and high school graduation requirements. The state pays only tuition. The student is responsible for purchasing textbooks and paying all applicable lab fees. Careful planning can result in the state paying the student’s tuition for two year’s worth of college credits.
